Our Story

Established in 2009, Helping Heart Society Nepal (HHSN) is a non-profit organization working in Nepal with the motive of “Working for the welfare of indigent people.” Our sectors of work include the fight against human trafficking, youth and women empowerment, scholarship programs for children, providing for marginalized groups, and social and educational awareness programs. Each of these efforts supports our mission of preventing Nepal’s women and children from falling prey to the evils of the human trafficking industry. Our heart longs to see the people of Nepal set free from the causes and effects of human traffickers who prey on vulnerable women and children. We believe every human being is created with equality and dignity, and no one deserves to be enslaved or taken advantage of by their fellow human beings. Our goal is to see the women and children of Nepal live a life free from the dangers of human trafficking and enjoy a life lived to its full potential.

OUR WORK SECTOR

A. Anti-human trafficking

Human trafficking being one of the fastest growing criminal industry has affected Nepal in such a way that every year an estimation of around 15 thousand young girls and women are trafficked to India only through false promises and coercion. Nepal has been a source country for sex trafficking to many countries like Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Russia, Pakistan, China, the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf states.

Many economic, social and cultural factors have a major role on this criminal industry to grow. Each year thousands of young girls are forced into sex trade through the open borders to India as human trafficking being a global issue has been a huge challenge to Nepal.

HHSN works to prevent and rescue Nepali young girls, women and children from being trafficked across the border to India, the Gulf States, and other countries around the world.

How We Work

Border surveillance, information sharing, counseling and rescue

One part of our strategy to interrupt and eradicate human trafficking in Nepal is through the establishment of surveillance booths at bus stations along the Nepal-India border. Each booth will be staffed by well-equipped and trained counselors maintaining a vigilant watch to detect suspicious activities related to human trafficking. In coordination with local police, the counselors can report suspects and provide the affected women and children with immediate assistance to ensure their safety. After initial inquiry and counseling, the rescued women and children can be taken to an emergency shelter or safe home.

Emergency shelter, safe homes and training center

Rescued women and children are brought to safety for the purpose of providing them with a safe and secure environment where they can receive psychological, emotional, and spiritual counseling. Women also have the opportunity to receive vocational training. The rescued women and children are welcome to stay in this safe environment until they are ready to return to their families and society.

Skill development and Income generating programs

Another key part of our strategy to interrupt and eradicate human trafficking in Nepal is providing vocational skill training to rescued individuals as well as to other women who belong to marginalized and indigent groups. Learning skills such as sewing, beautician, and food preparation provides rescued and underprivileged women with the opportunity to become self-dependent and self-sustaining members of society, thus mitigating the danger of falling prey to another human trafficker.

Rehabilitation

The psychological situation, mental state, lack of skills, and challenge of adjusting to society is an imposing obstacle for the rescued victims of human trafficking. Our heart’s desire is to help rehabilitate rescued women and children psychologically, socially, spiritually, and financially so they may enjoy life with a renewed sense of purpose and dignity.

Awareness, advocacy and lobbying

Another integral part of our work to interrupt and eradicate human trafficking is creating an awareness of human trafficking among the population of Nepal. Through help desks and information desks at bus stations, public awareness programs, street dramas, brochures and other literature, social media, and other forms of communication, our goal is to educate the public on the causes and effects of human trafficking and to offer solutions for eradicating this evil menace from society.

B. Child Sponsership

Millions of children in Nepal are deprived of basic necessities such as food, education, emotional and psychological care, health care, and more. Several factors contribute to the underprivileged status of these children, including becoming orphaned, weak family financial situations, a society unaware of the importance of education, patriarchal mindset that objects to the education of girls, and the unavailability of basic goods due to geographical isolation and lack of infrastructure development.

How We Work

Educational Sponsorship

HSSN provided educational sponsorship for kids who are deprived of schooling and education because of factors like their weak family financial situation, harmful family background, lack of awareness and many other reasons that has been a major obstacle for children receiving education. HSSN pays for their school fees, stationeries, tuition and school uniforms.

Supplies of Basic needs

HHSN helps kids with supplies of their basic needs like food and clothing and accommodations observing and analyzing the situation.

Emotional-spiritual support and guidance

With the help of qualified staffs and leaders HHSN also works for emotionally strengthening and spiritually guiding kids within their best interest.
